Miss Lucky Pony

Oh please i would LOOOOOVVVVE to win this giveaway!! Win with Miss Lucky Pony!

Hey there guys, I haven’t had one of these in a while so I’m excited about this one. Nicole & Bruce Johnston got hold of me the other day about their new little guest house in Simon’s Town, Cape Town called Cordelle. This sweet little place is nestled at the base of Mt. Pleasant in Simon’s Town with amazing views of the harbour and surrounding beaches.
- A pathway leads guests to the historical Victorian town, whereby a myriad of shops, restaurants & museums can be enjoyed. Cordelle is a stones-throw away from the legendary Boulders beach which is host to a large Jackass Penguin colony & other marine life.
This unique self-catering unit has been beautifully designed to suite the contemporary traveler & small family. With eloquent decor & stylish nuances, the space exudes a luxurious but homely atmosphere.
I think this spot looks and sounds amazing and from the photos you can see that they have really made such a cool effort to make it something special – I would live there nevermind just visit. Nicole, Bruce you keen to adopt? I bake and I can brush my own hair.
Anyway this couple has been kind enough to offer one of you guys 2-free nights (subject to availability) at their pretty Cordelle Guest House and all you have to do is:

Frankenweenie

Sparky Cake Pops

Halloween is just a few days away, but I want to share one more cake pop creation with you guys. I made these Sparky pops for Disney’s new website Spoonful. They’re inspired by Disney’s stop-motion 3D animated film, Frankenweenie from Tim Burton that opened earlier this month. If you haven’t seen the movie, Sparky is brought back to life by his young owner Victor after a car accident resulting in monstrous consequences.

What you'll need

  • 1 box cake mix (Bake as directed on box for 13 X 9 cake. Tint cake batter with green food color if desired.)
  • 1 16 oz can of ready made frosting
  • Wax paper
  • Baking sheets
  • White coating
  • Black candy color
  • Crows Licorice Gumdrops
  • Kitchen scissors
  • Black sugar pearls
  • Charcoal black petal dust
  • Brushes, small round or angled
  • Silver jimmies, optional
  • Toothpicks
  • Paper lollipop sticks
  • Styrofoam block
  • Black edible ink pen

Sparky

I loved the idea of making these cake pops in shades of gray since the movie was filmed in black and white. And I’m so happy with how they came out. It’s neat how these are all full color photos, but you can’t really tell since the candy coating is gray and the candies are black and white, too.
Making Sparky

A lot of times I’ll take on a character, but I don’t really know what it will end up looking like until I find the right candies to make the features. You can always use fondant to make features if you want, but using candies to help create the characters is more fun and challenging to me. It really is amazing all the creative possibilities a candy or sprinkle has.
Sparky

And of course, edible ink pens come in handy too. Especially for dotting eyes and drawing all of Sparky’s stitches.
Black Sugar Pearls

Proportion is key to recreating a character in cake pops. And something as simple as a black sugar pearl may be all you need for just the right touch.
Silver Jimmies

And silver jimmies… ?
Frankenweenie Cake Pops

How about bolts – they go great with the black and white theme, too.
Sparky’s stare even looks kinda spooky.
Sparky

Sparky! You are too cute… and it’s too bad I’m going to eat you.
Sparky Cake Pops

Awe, poor Sparky. Can’t catch a break. But he sure is tasty.
Here are the full instructions on Disney’s website Spoonful so you can make your own.

With Friday comes the freeing of both imaginations and schedules, leaving us with time to tinker on the weekend afternoons. To celebrate this, frankie magazine is going to be bringing you a new crafty online DIY every two weeks thanks to our new team of nimble thimble-fingered writers. Huzzah!
First up is Rachael Smith, the Brisbane-residing missus of Penelope and Pip. If you like what you see below then you can find more of her nifty goodness here. Take it away, Rachael!

There is no better way of celebrating than adding some bright pops of colour to the kitchen, so today I thought I'd show you how to make a Pom Pom Chandelier (it will help you feel all happy and summery, I promise).

Firstly, let's get started with materials:
DIY-Pom-Pom-Chandelier-by-Penelope-And-Pip Materials Frankie
MATERIALS
Pom pom maker (or you can fashion your own out of cardboard - the diameter I used is 5.5cm)
Scissors
Darning needle
Ruler
Assorted wool (I chose five colours)
Felt balls
Fabric or paper flowers
Embroidery hoop (mine was 7" wide)
Hook or metal hoop to hang it from (not shown)
You can find all of these materials at your local craft store.

INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Making your pom poms is pretty easy and you'll probably remember the ins and outs from primary school.
Wind your wool around your two discs until you almost close the gap in the middle.
Cut your wool using the middle of the discs as a guide.
Tie a long piece of string between the middle of the discs and knot tightly.
Remove the discs, fluff out your wool and trim to make a nice, smooth pom pom. You'll need to make ten of these.
TIP: Make sure you cut a gap in your pom pom discs as this will make it much quicker to loop the wool around.

Step 2: Cut one end of the wool tied around your pom pom off.
Thread your darning needle with the remaining wool length and thread your flowers on.
Decide what length you want these second tier pom poms to hang at and use the ruler to cut your lengths - this will ensure everything hangs evenly.

Step 3: Tie all of your second tier pom poms and flower lengths onto your embroidery hoop.

Step 4: Now make your first tier of pom poms by tying a pom pom onto the embroidery hoop at each place where you tied your first pom pom lengths.
Thread your needle again and this time add alternating felt balls and flowers.

Step 5: Once you have tied on your first tier pom poms and their embellishments, it's time to tie everything together so the chandelier can hang.
I used another little loop to make sure it hangs nicely, but you could tie the threads directly to a hook in the roof.
Use your ruler to make sure all your threads are the same length so that everything hangs evenly.

Now stand back, admire your beautiful handiwork, and bring some sunshine back into these first happy weeks of spring. I cant WAIT to try these and hang them somewhere pretty in my house...

Ceramics

That’s it… from now on, I’m choosing my breakfast plate based on the mood I wake up in:

I love love love these ceramics plates and bowls, London based artist/illustrator Charlotte Mei has a portfolio full of drawings and illustrations, but it was her ceramics that got me. Grumpy, sad, happy, blushing, content, screaming but my favourite is the toast!! ♥ oh my goodieness how i would love to eat my morning piece of toast on a happy toast ceramic plate ;) wow!! These are adorable and designed so simply and nicely ;) LOVE!!

Edible Art

Art that I can eat. Ok, this is just amazing, but come on, you can’t tell me that these sugary little masterpieces aren’t art?!?!  They are made by a pastry shop in Japan called henteco. They look so beautiful, but definitely not too beautiful to eat ;)
